THE NEW JERSEY GREEN BOOK
In 1937 Victor Hugo Green released the Negro Motorist Green Book to mark safe spaces for travel and lodging for Black travelers in the New York Metro area. The publication was released annually by Victor and his wife from 1937-1967.
Today in 2026 the New Jersey Green Book is inspired by Green’s mission to connect our people to places where they are safe, seen, and celebrated.
The New Jersey Green Book features over 144 brick and mortar businesses, across 16 counties in New Jersey. With a focus on places worth the trip (restaurants, lounges, hidden gems, etc.).
